Synopsis
Umber Singh is a Sikh who loses everything during the separation of
India in 1947 and is forced to leave his homeland. He obsessively wishes
for a male heir. When his fourth daughter is born, he decides to wage a
fight against destiny…

Anup Singh’s graduation film at the Film and TV-Institute of India,
LASYA -THE GENTLE DANCE, was awarded the main prize at the Oberhausen
Film Festival, his debut THE NAME OF A RIVER received the Aravindan
Award. Further to that, Anup is active as advisor for BBC and as a
critic and lecturer.
